The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

• High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

• The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically

the BLS components

• Important early use of an AED

• Effective ventilations using a barrier device

• Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR

• Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Your Provider card will be available the same day. You will receive an email from eCards@heart.org with a link inviting you to claim your eCard

online. Please make sure to check your spam or junk folder. The link will direct you to the Student

Profile webpage.

Note: For students to opt-in to this service, an Instructor or Training Center must FIRST enter the student’s mobile phone number in the eCards system when issuing an eCard.

1. During or after class, (if your Instructor or Training Center has entered your mobile phone number

into the eCard system) opt-in to claim/view your eCard by texting “eCard” to the number 51736.

2. If the message is sent correctly per the guidance of your Instructor, you will receive instructions via text message on how to claim your eCard.

3. If you attempt to opt-in and your number is not in the system, you will receive a message that your phone number was not found.

You can download your card directly from the American Heart Association. Visit https://ecards.heart.org/student/myecards. On the “Student” tab, enter your First Name, Last Name, and Email (ensure this is the email address that was used to sign up for the course) OR enter your eCard Code at the bottom of the page.. Click “Search.”

Given the steep increase from the AARC in getting Continued Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) courses approved, this program is on pause for now until we find a reasonable solution for you. The short answer is no, The American Heart Association is not an accrediting agency. You may contact your accrediting body to see if they will accept/award CE credits for this or any other AHA course you complete successfully. As of July, 2025, the Respiratory Care Board of California states the following:

"The Board will approve 15 hours of CE for each initial certification and five hours of CE for each recertification (toward respiratory care clinical practice CE) for a licensee’s successful completion of the following certification examinations:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), offered by

various providers.

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), offered by various

providers.

• Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS), offered by

various providers.

• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), offered by various

providers.

• Asthma Educator Certified (AE-C), provided by the National

Asthma Educator Certification Board."
