🚑 CPR for Children (1 year to puberty)

1. Check and Call

  • Tap and shout to check responsiveness.

  • If unresponsive and not breathing normally:

    • If alone: Perform 2 minutes of CPR first, then call 911.

    • If others are present: Have someone call 911 and get an AED right away.

2. Chest Compressions

  • Place the heel of one hand (or two if needed for strength) on the center of the chest.

  • Push down about 2 inches (5 cm) deep.

  • Compression rate: 100–120 per minute.

  • Allow the chest to fully recoil.

3. Rescue Breaths

  • After 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

  • Head tilt–chin lift, pinch nose shut, seal over the child’s mouth.

  • Each breath: ~1 second, just enough to see the chest rise.

👉 If two rescuers are present, use a 15 compressions : 2 breaths cycle.

👶 CPR for Infants (under 1 year)

1. Check and Call

  • Flick the soles of the feet or tap gently to check responsiveness.

  • If not breathing normally:

    • If alone: Perform 2 minutes of CPR first, then call 911.

    • If others are present: Have them call 911 and bring an AED while you start CPR.

2. Chest Compressions

  • Use two fingers (index and middle) in the center of the chest, just below the nipple line.

  • Push down about 1.5 inches (4 cm) deep.

  • Rate: 100–120 compressions per minute.

  • Allow full chest recoil.

3. Rescue Breaths

  • After 30 compressions, give 2 gentle puffs of air.

  • Cover the infant’s nose and mouth with your mouth to form a seal.

  • Each breath: ~1 second, watch for chest rise.

👉 If two rescuers are present, use a 15 compressions : 2 breaths cycle.

4. AED Use

  • If an AED is available, use pediatric pads if possible.

  • If not, use adult pads (make sure they don’t touch each other — one on the chest, one on the back).

✅ Key Differences Recap:

  • Children: One or two hands, 2 inches depth.

  • Infants: Two fingers, 1.5 inches depth, gentle breaths.

  • Rescue cycles: 30:2 for single rescuer, 15:2 for two rescuers.
